Why are Republicans called "the party of no" for vetoing legislation the Democrats make?

Is that anything new? By that "logic" weren't Democrats "the party of no" for vetoing legislation the Republicans made? Why are Republicans called "the party of no" for vetoing legislation the Democrats make?
When it comes to Democrats - more specifically Liberal ones - having Republicans be the "party of no" is a good thing.
There are two differences that make the Republicans more aptly named that you don't mention:

1. Republicans have threatened to filibuster Democratic legislation in the past 2 years than any Congress has ever threatened before. Democrats have certainly threatened it before, but we're talking a much smaller amount of times. You become the "party of no" when you decide that that's your only line.

2. Speaking of only line, Democrats in Republican administrations have rallied against many of the bills presented, but as I said, they don't always threaten a filibuster. What do they do instead? They suggest alternatives, or they try and find a middle ground between themselves and the Republicans. The Democratic Party has a long history of presenting ideas rather than simply trying to shut down the process, and this is shown pretty through the Bush administration. Why are Republicans called "the party of no" for vetoing legislation the Democrats make?
They voted no on everything and had no solutions. They even voted no to have a bill debated.

What has Obama vetoed? What has Congress vetoed?

So far all the bills that were beaten, 3 of them, had to do with abortion. The Republicans have enough votes to pass them, but all failed because even Republicans didn't like them.

What has been vetoed? What has been stopped from coming up for a vote? NOTHING!

"Newt Gingrich's group is called "American Solutions"! Last time I looked Newt the philanderer wasn't in the Congress, nor is his group that also has no answers. Just because he names something that doesn't mean it is. It is just money for Newt that you donate so readily!

Sorry, your "facts" are really wrong!
Because those Republicans took it to the extreme. They exercised more tactics to block legislation from going forward than any Congress in history.

I think it comical that Wisconsin Democrats stole a page out the GOP "ways to say no" playbook... and are now COMPLETELY up in arms about it.

Conservative hypocrisy is truly without bounds.

EDIT: I could start an organizations tomorrow called "Hawkeye's Billionaires Club"..... it would be about as likely to make you a billionaire by joining my club.... .as it would be to get any USEFUL solutions from "American Solutions."Why are Republicans called "the party of no" for vetoing legislation the Democrats make?
Rather than be a constructive voice, the Republicans just put their foot down to everything and failed to contribute anything of value to the conversation. They failed to put forth any suggestions of their own.

"As for not offering solutions, Newt Gingrich's group is called "American Solutions" for chrissakes!"

Cool story but Newt isn't a Republican Congressmen anymore.
Hi,

The republicans are all about power and not helping the working class. They much rather turn down a bill if it does not benefit them financially through special interests and lobbyists. If they say no they also regain the senate and the house. They now have the majority of the house.

Joe
There is a difference.
Dems did not veto many things that Republicans proposed, from No child left behind to bancrupcy reform. Republicans veto essentially e v e r y t h i n g !
So, Dems were a party of let me think about it, Republicans have become the party of HELL NO!
Yeah. But that's politics. You always try to paint your opposition in ways that show your side favorably. Some times it's deserved, sometimes it's not.
usually there is some give and take... even when the dems put in republican proposals into their plans... republicans still voted no...

usually the other side votes yes SOMETIMES...
The GOP can't veto legislation. Only the President can do that.

And they're called the 'party of no' for opposing solutions proposed by the democrats and offering none of their own
Republicans; No Ideas, No Morals, No Values, No Sharing, No Helping, NO GOOD!
At least the GOP were there to VOTE NO-----------WHERE ARE THE CHICKEN S-H-I-T DEMS IN Wisconsin and Indiana? How can one vote no if he isnt present and hiding like a scared little puppy.
Alex, only presidents VETO.
Veto?
Liberal Logic - such as it is - leaves a lot to be desired
