Knives are ubiquitous - I have many of them in my kitchen. Should a blanket ban be imposed ? What about chefs keeping their property safe ? Or a boyscout with a penknife ? Or the multitool I have in my car ?What do you think of potential legislation on the carrying of knives ?
Our current legislation works very well. You can't possibly impose a blanket ban, as that would present problems to anyone buying knives and taking them home, or people who keep the tools of their trade at home and take them to work each day for reasons of safety or practicality. Section 139 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (as amended) works quite well for practical purposes, as it contains sufficient latitude for anyone carrying a knife in circumstances which our legislators have not yet dreamed up can offer "any other good reason" as a defence. http://www.davidappleton.co.uk/bbforum/c鈥?/a>What do you think of potential legislation on the carrying of knives ?
depends on type of knife.
Always have a fillet knife when fishing it hunting but a Bowie Knife or survivalist knife??
If blade does not exceed 5" Ok to me.What do you think of potential legislation on the carrying of knives ?
Presuming you're talking about the UK the present legislation works well and for once is sensibly applied, with allowance made for the chef taking his box of knives home, the boyscout with the penkife, the knife a diver carries on his equipment or the multitool a lot of us keep in the car etc.
I cannot see that any tighter legislation is going to prevent the misuse of knives, whether legal or not. Present tough firearms legislation, for example, has not stopped illegal weapons.
